Documentary About...

During the 1930s and 40s, Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) was one of America’s most famous personalities. The foremost illustrator of his day, he created definitive drawings for literary classics such as “Moby Dick,” “Candide,” and “The Canterbury Tales.” Kent was also a prolific oil painter whose work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. His haunting landscapes were inspired by his adventurous sojourns to Alaska, Tierra del Fuego and Greenland.

Conference of Young Alaskans

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alaska Statehood and to foster awareness and appreciation of our state’s history among the emerging leaders of Alaska, the University of Alaska has convened a second Conference of Young Alaskans this first week of January, 2009 in Girdwood.

The conference again draws fifty-five delegates from across the state to consider the challenges facing Alaska and her people. Together, they are working to develop policy statements and proposed courses of action. The selected delegates represent the voice of Alaska’s next generation of leaders and the gathering demonstrates the potential and possibility of Alaskans putting aside their differences to work together for the common good.

We're covering the conference for 360 North. Watch the presentations and events.

"Chrome Won't Get You Home"

This remarkable documentary vividly recalls how the small and mighty wartime Jeep carried soldiers and supplies, acted as a power source for heat and light, served as an emergency ambulance and quickly became an American icon.
