Special Session - Gavel Alaska

The Alaska House of Representatives and Senate invoked a never-before-used part of the state Constitution Sunday night, April 17 — the day scheduled for adjournment — citing an impasse between the two houses. The action took the form of a letter from the Senate and HR9 in the House. The move ceded adjournment powers to the governor.

Gov. Parnell adjourned the Legislature at 10:48 p.m., and announced a special session to begin at 1 p.m. Monday, April 18, to complete work on 10 bills:

• HB108, the operating budget
• HB109, the Mental Health Trust Authority budget
• SB46, the capital budget
• SB76, supplemental appropriations
• HB104, Alaska Performance Scholarships
• SB42, Power Project: Susitna/ Alaska Energy Authority
• HB106, Coastal Management Program
• SB84, Vocational Education and Basic Funding/ Tax Credits
• HB24, Regulatory Commission of Alaska sunset
• HB126, Extending Boards and Commissions

To best bring you the most recent coverage of the proceedings 360 North may, occasionally, preempt regular evening programming to continue live meeting coverage. We will still strive to include BBC World News and Alaska Weather during our evening broadcasts.

This only happens a few times a year. We make the decision to bring the most immediate happenings from the Capitol to our viewers on your Alaska public affairs channel, 360 North. As the meetings run long or go into the evening, we will bring that to you.
