This month 360 North added a little bit of music to the schedule.
Shadows passing across the moon, a soft beating of unseen wings in the dark, distant cries blown back by the wind, a line of geese flying high… these are some of the familiar fragments that are part of the mystery of migration. Waterfowl, shorebirds and cranes are linked by a love of water. Since the Ice Age retreated, arctic nesting birds have travelled immense distances every fall to overwinter and every spring to return. Their passage marks the seasons, and is a mystery that still fascinates man.
A new series begins this week. Twenty great natural history films by Karvonen Films will air each week through the end of the year. These programs were selected with the help of the filmmaker, Albert Karvonen, specifically for the Alaska audience that watches 360 North.
On September 18, 2007, computer science professor Randy Pausch stepped in front of an audience of 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University to deliver a last lecture called “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” With slides of his CT scans beaming out to the audience, Randy told his audience about the cancer that is devouring his pancreas and that will claim his life in a matter of months. On the stage that day, Randy was youthful, energetic, handsome, often cheerfully, darkly funny. He seemed invincible. But this was a brief moment, as he himself acknowledged. Randy’s lecture has become a phenomenon, as has the book he wrote based on the same principles, celebrating the dreams we all strive to make realities. Sadly, Randy lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on July 25th, 2008, but his legacy will continue to inspire us all, for generations to come.
Well over half of you have the television signal that you watch delivered to you by cable. About a quarter of Alaskans have satellite receivers of their own. Almost twenty percent of our poll participants watch TV by antenna or other means.

Honoring the Former First Ladies of Alaska 
There are less than ten days left in the current special session of the Alaska legislature. With the clock ticking and important issues and votes to be decided 360 North will preempt regularly scheduled programming whenever necessary so we can keep Alaskans informed of the activities in Juneau.
When asked if they had been following legislative coverage recently, almost a quarter of the people had been watching special session coverage.
